How to use Claude with Roblox Studio

Claude can work directly inside Roblox Studio: read your scripts, edit them, build parts, start a playtest, read the errors and look at a screenshot. It does that through the MCP server Roblox built into Studio. There are three ways to set it up, from "paste one command" to "no setup at all". The Studio steps below follow Roblox's own documentation.

Step 0: turn on Studio's MCP server

Every option needs this once.

  1. Update Roblox Studio and open a place (New ▸ Baseplate is fine).
  2. Open Assistant, click ⋯, choose Manage MCP Servers.
  3. Turn on Enable Studio as MCP server. A green indicator shows how many clients are connected.

Option 1: Claude Code (or Claude Desktop) with Quick connect

The easiest manual route. Roblox's Quick connect lists Claude Code and Claude Desktop, along with Cursor, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Antigravity and Visual Studio Code.

  1. Install Claude Code or Claude Desktop first. Studio only lists clients that are already installed, so restart Studio if you installed it while Studio was open.
  2. In Studio: Assistant Settings ▸ MCP Servers, expand Quick connect, and turn on your client.
  3. Restart the client. In Claude Code, run /mcp to see the Roblox_Studio server.

Option 2: add it by hand

Claude Code, one command

Claude Code adds a local server with claude mcp add [options] <name> -- <command> [args...]. Everything after -- is the command that starts the server. On Windows, run this in Command Prompt (cmd):

claude mcp add --transport stdio --scope user Roblox_Studio -- cmd.exe /c %LOCALAPPDATA%\Roblox\mcp.bat

On a Mac:

claude mcp add --transport stdio --scope user Roblox_Studio -- /Applications/RobloxStudio.app/Contents/MacOS/StudioMCP

--scope user makes it available in every folder you open Claude Code in. Check it with:

claude mcp list

You want to see Roblox_Studio with "✔ Connected". "✘ Failed to connect" usually means Studio's switch is off or the path is wrong; see MCP not connecting.

Claude Desktop, JSON config

Add a Roblox_Studio entry under mcpServers in Claude Desktop's config file (Settings ▸ Developer ▸ Edit Config), then restart Claude Desktop. On Windows:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "Roblox_Studio": {
      "command": "cmd.exe",
      "args": ["/c", "%LOCALAPPDATA%\\Roblox\\mcp.bat"]
    }
  }
}

On a Mac, use "command": "/Applications/RobloxStudio.app/Contents/MacOS/StudioMCP" with no args. If the file already has servers, add the entry inside the same mcpServers object with a comma.

Option 3: ForgeBlox, no config at all

ForgeBlox (originally launched as Forge) is a Roblox game builder that runs Claude for you. You do not need a Claude account, a terminal or a config file: download the ForgeBlox Bridge on your Windows PC, it pairs itself, you flip Studio's MCP switch, and you type in the browser. Claude Sonnet 5.5 is the default, with Claude Opus 5.5 and Fable 5.1 for harder problems, and the price of each message shows before you send it.

What you get on top of a raw connection: a system prompt tuned for Roblox (server-side economy, validated remotes, one idempotent ProcessReceipt), a playtest and screenshot after each step, finished UI screens for members, per-message and per-day spending caps, and Roblox sign-in only.

Good first prompts

Whichever option you use, start small and make Claude prove it worked:

Look at this place and tell me what is in Workspace, ServerScriptService
and StarterGui. Do not change anything yet.
Add a Coins leaderstat that saves with DataStoreService (pcall, session
lock, save on leave). Start a playtest, read the output console, fix any
errors, then capture the viewport and stop the playtest.

The second prompt uses the tools that make Studio's MCP server worth it: multi_edit to write the script, start_stop_play, get_console_output and screen_capture to check it. For full game sequences, the tycoon and obby guides work in any Claude client.

Stay safe

Questions

Can Claude control Roblox Studio?

Yes, through Studio's built-in MCP server. Turn it on, connect Claude Code or Claude Desktop, and Claude can read and edit scripts, inspect the Explorer, run Luau, playtest, read the console and capture screenshots.

What is the claude mcp add command for Roblox Studio?

On Windows in Command Prompt: claude mcp add --transport stdio --scope user Roblox_Studio -- cmd.exe /c %LOCALAPPDATA%\Roblox\mcp.bat. On a Mac, replace everything after -- with /Applications/RobloxStudio.app/Contents/MacOS/StudioMCP.

Do I need a Claude subscription?

For Claude Code or Claude Desktop, yes: you use your own Claude account. ForgeBlox runs Claude for you on prepaid credits from $10 with no subscription.

Can I use Cursor or ChatGPT's Codex instead?

Yes. Studio's Quick connect also lists Cursor, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI, Antigravity and Visual Studio Code, and any client that supports stdio MCP servers can use the commands above.
